Important pre-upgrade information
Before you upgrade, read this important pre-upgrade information.
Prior to an upgrade, refer to the Nuix Discover Hardware and System Requirements to understand additional Windows Server, SQL Server, CPU, RAM, and hard drive space requirements. If your operating system or version of SQL Server does not match the requirements, contact Nuix Support, as you will not be able to use this process for your upgrade.
If you are licensed for Nuix Discover Ingestions, the Nuix Management Server will have to be upgraded to version 8.4.x or higher to support Nuix Discover version 10.2.010 or higher.
If upgrading from a version prior to Ringtail 8.4, you are required to enter a new license key after installation. Before you upgrade, submit a ticket to Nuix Support to notify the team that you intend to upgrade. You are provided with a key after you complete the upgrade.
This document applies only to upgrades from an existing Ringtail 8.6 or higher installation on:
Windows Server 2019 and 2022
SQL Server 2017 CU5 (Build version 14.0.3023.8) or higher
Note: As of Nuix Discover 10.0, SQL Server 2014 is no longer supported.
The Nuix Discover upgrade process consists of the following stages:
Plan: Review your existing environment and document key details, such as server host names, web site URLs, and credentials for administrator and database accounts. You must provide these details when you upgrade.
Prepare: Download the new Nuix Discover installers and back up your existing system and databases.
Upgrade: On each Nuix Discover server, do the following:
Uninstall existing software prior to 9.7 from all servers; 9.7 or higher does not have to be uninstalled. This removes the software from each server but does not remove any of your previous settings or work product.
Install Nuix Discover 10.1.x software using the downloaded installers. The packages install the new version of software on each server. Each installer package is cumulative, containing all previous version updates, fixes, and service packs.
Deploy the Nuix Discover 10.1.x software to update each component. After installing the software, the new version of the Nuix Discover software must be deployed to each server. Depending on the server role, there are different deployment mechanisms.
Test: On the application web site, perform functional tests to ensure the upgrade was successful.
Note: As of Nuix Discover version 10.2, the Microsoft OLE Database Driver is required for SQL Server Analysis Servers.
When SQL Server Analysis Services is run on a separate server from the Discover portal and case databases, the Microsoft OLE Database Driver for SQL Server must be installed to utilize the Cubes feature. The driver can be downloaded here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/oledb/download-oledb-driver-for-sql-server?view=sql-server-ver15
