Configure Near Native Viewer (Nuix Investigate)

Nuix Investigate supports the ability to view documents and other Microsoft file types in a native view that replicates some of the features and visual formatting of the original application. To enable this functionality, you must provision a Microsoft Office Online Server (MSOOS) in your environment.

Important: The MSOOS must be secured if TLS is enabled for Nuix Neo.

Note: Your organization must have an Office Online Volume License with Microsoft to access the MSOOS software and enable this feature.

If available, an existing MSOOS can be used if already deployed in your organization, otherwise set up a dedicated MSOOS can be setup for Nuix Investigate.

You should use the latest version of MSOOS, as documented on the OOS release schedule.

For the latest software, hardware, and configuration requirements, see the MSDN documentation: Plan Office Online Server.

For the latest instructions on performing an on-premise installation, see the MSDN documentation: Plan Office Online Server.

Note: You can enable TLS on the deployed MSOOS to ensure more secure operation with Nuix Investigate, but this is only required if Nuix Neo is also secured with TLS enabled. For details see Secure Microsoft Office Online Server.

Enable the Near Native view

After you deploy and configure a Microsoft Office Online Server, you can enable the Near Native Viewer feature in Nuix Investigate using the following steps.

Note: Enable the Near Native viewer on https to avoid mixed content errors.

To enable the Near Native Viewer:

From the Nuix Configuration Utility, select Investigate from the Service Selector.

Locate the Near Native Viewer URL property.

Update it to reflect the FQDN of the Microsoft Office Online Server.

For example: https://<FQDN of MSOOS>

Tip: To ensure that the Microsoft Office Online Server being used with Nuix Investigate is configured properly, use a web browser to access the following URL:
https://<FQDN-of-MSOOS>/hosting/discovery

An XML file should be returned. Expand the root <wopi-discovery> element and verify that it contains an element named <net-zone name="external-https">.

Within this element, locate the urlsrc parameter. The initial portion of the URL specified for this parameter should match the FQDN entered for the Near Native Viewer URL property.

For example: urlsrc="https://FQDN-of-MSOOS"/x/_layouts/xlviewerinternal.aspx?

If this element is missing, review the procedure in Secure Microsoft Office Online Server.

Click Save Configuration to finalize the changes.

See Error! Reference source not found. to restart the Nuix Investigate service for the change to take effect.
